Bag Repair Services
We perform all sorts of bag repair and restoration services. If the service you're looking for isn't listed below, you'll be able to request a free custom quote during the order process.
Hardware
We replace damaged hardware (including buckles, clasps, clips, rings, locks and other bag closures), and repair the damage where we can't source sufficiently similar replacements.
Clean / restoration
The surfaces of bags are easily scuffed, cracked or otherwise damaged. We polish out these scuffs and clean the bags, removing dirt and even stains with the finest quality polishes and conditioners. Learn more about our bag cleaning and restoration services.
Stitching
We repair damaged stitching on bags with matching string, removing existing string and restitching lines entirely if need be.
Inner lining
The inner lining fabric often tears or shows significant wear over time. We repair linings by stitching and patching minors tears or else replacing linings with custom-made leather ones.
Straps / handles
We repair damaged straps or replace them entirely with the same or very similar materials, including any velcro on their underside.
Waterproofing / stain protection
Waterproofing and colour-protecting your bag will help to keep it looking and feeling fresh over time and in, or in spite of, all types of weather.
Zippers
Zipper damage doesn't spell the end of a great bag. We can repair the original zipper or replace it with a new one if need be. Learn more about our bag zipper repair and replacement services.
Eyelets
These are metallic rings around holes in leather/fabric, typically used to thread laces. We replace them where damaged and can even add new ones where necessary.
Tears
Tears often appear on bag surfaces, usually close to seams. We repair this surface damage with leather patching (applying a leather path to the bag's interior to reinforce the bag around the tear) and invisible stitching.
Piping
Bag manufacturers use piping to reinforce the structure of a bag at its weakest points, such that continued use of a bag with damaged piping can make things worse. We repair or replace worn and torn leather or fabric piping.
Recolouring / re-dyeing
We can recolour or re-dye bags to address any discolouration or surface damage, or to simply get your bag looking fresh again.

Why a bag repair always beats buying new
Bags predating recorded history were made from leathers and fabrics to offer utmost functionality in carrying with us everything we need to power through the day. Bags have not fundamentally changed since then, except that they have also come to represent statements — ones we send to the world, declaring who we are and what we care about, whether that comes from the hard-wearing reliability of a work bag or the panache of a designer bag.
Through everyday wear and the natural effects of materials ageing and gathering a few gnarly scars along the way, bags gradually become mere shadows of their former selves. And yet, while replacing worn bags with brand new ones often seems like an obvious choice, there is no reason for a bag to end up in landfill.
This is particularly true for bags in which we have invested a lot of money and with which we have naturally formed attachments — with the bags having proven their worth as steady carriers of the loads otherwise stacked on our shoulders or sources of the confidence with we walk.
No matter how tired your bag is looking, SoleHeeled can probably bring it back to life — with a full range of bag repair, restoration and cleaning services to help get the bag looking and feeling its best.

Frequently Asked Questions
Bag repair prices tend to vary significantly depending on the type of repair service provided. For example, a bag zip repair might cost as little as $79 and a bag cleaning as little as $129, while a bag strap replacement might cost $159 or more for custom crafted leather straps or handles. Other factors affecting the cost of a bag repair include the types of materials involved and the standard of work offered — generally based on the customer's preferences.
If you would like a price for repairing your bag, then complete our order form. You will be able to upload photos and describe the work you are looking for before getting an instant quote based on your selections or requesting a custom quote.
It's all very quick and easy — promise!
- Complete our online order form, where you'll be able to upload photos and describe the work you'd like done to the bag. You'll get an instant quote based on your selection and then choose to either proceed with an order or request a custom quote.
- Once we've reviewed your order, we'll email you instructions for getting your bag to us. If you live in Sydney, you'll have the option to drop the bag off at our workshop. Otherwise, you'll be able to drop it off at a local Australia Post office, where it will be packaged and shipped over to us for free.
- Once we receive your bag, we'll repair and return it to you by courier.
The time it takes to complete a bag repair depends on the work required and the workload in the workshop when the bag is received.
We are generally able to complete basic repairs within 2-5 business days of receiving bags at the workshop. This extends to 1-2 weeks for most specialist repairs and longer for more complex repairs and restorations.
If you will be using our free shipping service (rather than dropping off and picking up your bag at the workshop), then you should also factor in shipping time via Australia Post. This varies depending on your location, but generally takes no more than a few business days if you're in a metropolitan area and otherwise up to 5 business days (if you're in a regional or remote area).
We use only the highest quality materials, including premium leathers and hardware. We use original manufacturers' parts and materials where possible (whether recycled from older bags or supplied by the customer or manufacturer) and otherwise work with local and international suppliers to source suitable parts where appropriate.
We stock a wide range of premium leather and other care products you can use to extend the life of your bag. We'd be happy to ship these to you. Simply mention what you're looking for while completing our online order form (if you're also planning to get your bag repaired), or reach out (if you're not planning to get your bag repaired).
Once you submit your online order form, you'll be given a token that allows you to track everything online, throughout the process of getting your bag repaired.
And whenever your bag is in transit (whether on its way to our workshop via Australia Post or on the way back to you via courier), you'll have a parcel tracking number and receive real-time shipping notifications by email.
Yes, you can drop off and pick up your bag at our workshop in Martin Place, Sydney provided that:
- You first complete your order online;
- You let us know (in the order form or by follow up email) that you'd like to drop off and/or pick up at the workshop; and
- We have emailed you a ticket that you'll need to print out and hand over at the workshop for ID and proof of payment.
The zipper on this MCM All-Over backpack was broken and needed replacement. We replaced the damaged zipper with a brand new one to which we attached the original pulls.
