Bag Restoration & Cleaning Services
Bags make us look and feel great, not least when they are brand new. As a bag ages and starts looking worn and tired, whether through the accumulation of dirt, stains and gnarly scars or the fading of the original colour, it is often easy to assume that the time has come to purchase a new bag. But our bag spa is here to ensure you keep your bag at your side doing what it does best, rather than sending it to landfill.
Our bag cleaning and bag restoration services will help to bring your treasured bags back to life. While we specialise in designer bag cleaning and restoration, we work on not only handbags, but also backpacks, briefcases and more. We have been in the business since 1955, so we have the skills and know-how to offer a comprehensive range of services at levels of quality few can match. Whether you’re looking for a regular or luxury bag cleaning or a delicate bag restoration, we have you covered.
Bag Cleaning
If you are looking for a professional bag cleaning service, then look no further. We can clean most types of bags and materials, removing excess dirt and other impurities that accumulate on the surface of bags, causing them to start looking shabby and tired. When performing a leather bag cleaning, we also condition the leather to nourish it, thus making it more supple and less susceptible to scuffing, tearing and discolouration, as well as giving the leather a fresher feel.
Leather Bag Cleaning
We safely remove surface dirt as well as oils and other impurities on leather with special leather cleaning agents. We then condition the leather to nourish it, making the leather supple and both looking and feeling healthier.
Suede Bag Cleaning
We carefully brush the suede to remove excess dirt on the surface before treating the suede with a specialist cleaning agent. We then use a suede conditioner to gently nourish the suede and finally brush the suede lightly to restore the nap.
Fabric Bag Cleaning
Fabrics are generally harder to clean than leathers, particularly when the fabric has not been previously treated with a protecting agent and/or the bag has not been regularly cleaned. However, a gentle specialist shampoo often helps.
Canvas Bag Cleaning
Unlike leathers and other fabrics, canvas materials tend to be less porous and so less likely to carry accumulated dirt and impurities. However, we take care while cleaning canvas to ensure it is not left discoloured due to abrasion or otherwise improper cleaning.
Bag Stain Removal & Mould Treatment
Sometimes cleaning a bag is not sufficient to get it looking fresh, particularly when the bag is stained or affected by mould growth.
Stain Removal
We deal with stains from variety of sources, including grease / oil, water damage, ink, dye transfer and mould. Stains can often be specially treated to remove them or at least significantly reduce their visibility. A colour restoration or colour change may help to effectively cover up stains that cannot otherwise be removed.
Mould Removal
When mould growth appears on bags, it can be satisfying to see the mould disappear with the simple swipe of a wet rag. However, without proper treatment, the mould will quickly return. We treat bags with special agents that not only remove all of the existing mould but also protect against mould growth going forward.
Bag Colour Restoration
We recolour / refinish leathers and other materials when they are discoloured, whether due to natural fading, stains, scratches or other damage. This often results in a full restoration of the colour, but generally helps to at least significantly reduce the visibility of the lost colour.
We achieve a superior, long-lasting colour restoration on leathers and some fabrics by recolouring with a range of specialist dyes and paints. These are occasionally custom-mixed to match or at least approximate the original colour of the bag. Before applying the new colour, we always clean the bag (as well as condition it if leather is involved) to ensure the material is ready to properly absorb the colour. The colour is applied to the bag’s surface by hand or airbrush and the colour is then ‘finished’ to produce a desired texture. We complete the colour restoration by treating the bag with a waterproofing / stain protection agent that seals in the new colour.
We also offer a hardware re-plating service, which allows us restore gold hardware on bags (as well as silver and other colours).
Related Services
Waterproofing / stain protection
When customers are looking to protect their bags, whether made of fabric or leather (especially suede), from water damage and stains, the bags can be treated with special agents that form a protective surface coat that helps to prevent this sort of damage.
Colour change
A bag’s original colour might not be quite as desirable as it was when the bag was first purchased. In these cases, we can (instead of restoring the old colour) change the colour to an entirely new one, leaving us with what feels like an entirely new and improved bag.

- the interior of the bag also needs cleaning; or
- all or part of the bag needs recolouring / refinishing.
The cost to recolour / refinish a discoloured bag starts at $99, and varies based on the amount and type of material needing to be worked on and whether a custom mixing of colours is needed for colour matching purposes.

A bag spa offers bag cleaning and restoration services, mainly for luxury leather bags. The idea is that these bags ought to be regularly rejuvinated with time at a 'spa', as humans themselves are. Bag spas have grown in popularity alongside the increase in consumer spending on luxury bags and consumer preferences trending in favour of 'slow fashion' — a sustainable, environmentally friendly alternative to fast fashion.
Bags should be cleaned when accidents happen or it becomes apparent that the bags are covered in dirt or other impurities. More importantly, bags should be regularly maintained to ensure that the materials from which they are made are healthy. For example, leather bags should be regularly conditioned (not just cleaned) to nourish the leather, making it more supple and less likely to become dry and start cracking and tearing. How often this maintenance is needed depends on the bag involved and how often it is used. Generally speaking, a leather bag worn daily should be conditioned at least twice a year.
The time it takes to complete a cleaning service varies depending on the particular work required and the workload in the workshop when the bag is received.
We are generally able to complete basic bag cleaning and restoration services within 2 weeks of receiving bags at the workshop. This extends to 2-3 weeks for most specialist services and longer for more complex restorations.
If you will be using our free shipping service (rather than dropping off and picking up your bag at the workshop), then you should also factor in shipping time via Australia Post. This varies depending on your location, but generally takes no more than a few business days if you're in a metropolitan area and otherwise up to 5 business days (if you're in a regional or remote area).
Once you submit your online order form, you'll be given a token that allows you to track everything online, throughout the process of getting your bag cleaned / restored.
And whenever your bag is in transit (whether on its way to our workshop or back to you via Australia Post), you'll have a parcel tracking number and receive real-time shipping notifications by email.
Yes, you can drop off and pick up your bag at our workshop in Martin Place, Sydney provided that:

- We have emailed you a ticket that you'll need to print out and hand over at the workshop for ID and proof of payment.
The strap on this Saint Laurent College bag was torn, and the leather around the bottom corners and the edges of the flap was worn through. We replaced the strap and restored the damaged leather.
