The leather around the outside of this Chanel Quilted Leather Jumbo Classic bag was looking tired, with discolouration and wear around the corners and bottom of the bag due to abrasion. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to clean and condition the leather throughout the exterior of the bag before recolouring / refinishing the leather to help get it all looking and feeling fresher.
Leather cleaning, conditioning and recolouring
Before attempting to recolour leather, it is essential that the leather is fully cleaned and prepped — otherwise, the leather will fail to properly absorb the new colour, causing dye transfer stains on the wearer’s clothes and other items that come into contact with the leather. So we started off by cleaning the leather to remove any dirt and other accumulated impurities on the surface of the leather, and we then conditioned the leather in order to nourish it and ensure it was ready to take the new colour. We then carefully dyed the leather to black, applying multiple coats of dye followed by a final coat consisting of a waterproofing / stain protection agent that helps to seal in the dye.
