This Valentino Garavani Rockstud tote bag is an iconic carryall crafted from high-quality leather and embellished with the brand’s signature pyramid studs. However, the leather on this bag had become dirty, dry and scuffed, leaving the leather darker and in desperate need of restoration. We first cleaned and conditioned the leather throughout the bag, to get rid of all the dirt and nourish the leather before recolouring it.
Leather colour restoration
We initially expected to be able to touch up those areas of the bag where the leather was scratched or scuffed. However, the cleaning and conditioning revealed that the leather was discoloured pretty much throughout the bag — the leather had become so dry that the leather was starting to reveal cracks that were filling up with dirt. And so it was clear that the entire bag would need to be recoloured.
With the bag fully conditioned and cleaned, we custom mixed a dye that matched the bag’s original colour and set about recolouring the entire bag.
