The handbag
This vintage Bally handbag was decades old and in reasonably good shape, except that the leather exterior was heavily scuffed and the main hardware had lost its colour. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis / quote, we offered to re-plate the hardware as well as clean, condition and recolour / refinish the leather.
Leather cleaning, conditioning and colour restoration
We started off by cleaning the leather to remove all traces of dirt and accumulated impurities on the surface. We then conditioned the leather to nourish it, making it more supple and less likely to continue scuffing so easily. We finally used a black dye to recolour the leather before sealing in the new colour with a waterproofing / stain protection agent.
Hardware re-plating
We cleaned the hardware with a special agent before re-plating the hardware to produce a hard-wearing layer of 24k gold, specially sealing the plating, and then polishing the hardware to restore as much of its original lustre as possible.
