SoleHeeled offers convenient and affordable Valentino shoe repairs by Australia’s best craftsmen, with free shipping to your door. This case study outlines how we recently repaired a customer’s Valentino shoes.
The shoes
These Valentino Patent Rockstud Pumps were looking well-worn, with the patent leather around the heel blocks torn and peeling, and the leather soles wearing down quickly with no protection. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to re-cover the heel blocks with new leather, repair the leather soles, and install rubber sole protectors.
Heel block re-wrapping
We began by carefully peeling back the nude leather around the inside of the heel blocks and then detaching the heel blocks from the uppers. We then removed the old leather covering and cleaned the adhesive residue from the heel blocks. We then cut new pieces of leather from a fresh hide, using the original leather as a template, applied adhesive to the heel block and the leather, and carefully wrapped the new leather around the block. After trimming the excess leather, we re-attached the heel blocks to the uppers, adhered the nude inner leather back into place, and installed a brand new pair of heel tips.
Protective sole installation
The leather soles on these shoes were heavily worn, especially on the right shoe, where the leather at the tip of the toe was missing. Due to the extent of the wear, we began by building up the original soles with new leather, to level them off. We then sanded the surface of the soles, creating a slight depression in which we then installed a pair of Vibram rubber sole protectors.
These sole protectors are available with a lightly textured finish that significantly enhances traction, and they’re made from a highly durable rubber compound for excellent longevity. The customer in this case preferred a darker rubber that would do better at concealing the sort of discolouration and wear otherwise visible on the soles. However, these sole protectors are otherwise available in a range of colours and finishes.
