SoleHeeled offers convenient and affordable Hermès shoe repairs by Australia’s best craftsmen, with free shipping to your door. This case study outlines how we recently repaired a customer’s Hermès shoes.
The shoes
These Hermès Oran sandals were brand new, with the original leather soles and combination leather + rubber heels unprotected. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to protect the original soles and heels from wear and improve traction without detracting from the shoes aesthetically by installing a pair of premium sole and heel protectors.
Protective soles
We began by carefully sanding down the front portion of the soles. This works to create enough of a depression in the leather for the new sole protectors to sit as flush as possible with the rest of the soles — rather than sitting on top and disrupting the profile of the shoes.
We then selected a pair of premium sole protectors for use on the shoes and adhered them into place, on top of the original leather soles — and without covering the embossed Hermès logo.
The protective soles we used here are manufactured by Casali in Italy and a nude colour designed specifically to blend in with the natural leather soles on most Hermès shoes. Sole protectors generally offer significantly improved traction and longevity, compared to the original leather soles, but these protectors in particular — with their special texture and colour — allow us to minimise disruption to the look of the shoes.
Reheel
We began by removing the original heels and then specially crafted a new pair of heels made from a highly durable rubber at the back (where heels tend to wear down fastest) and the same Casali protective rubber we used on the soles at the front.
This allowed us to protect the heels from wear, particularly on the leather portion which tends to quickly show signs of wear and discolouration (within only a few initial wears) and further improve traction — and again, to do so without affecting the original look or profile of the shoes.
