SoleHeeled offers convenient and affordable Hermès handbag repairs by Australia’s best craftsmen, with free shipping to your door. This case study outlines how we recently repaired a customer’s Hermès handbag.
The handbag
This Hermès Birkin bag was built not only as a notable fashion piece but also to withstand the rigours of everyday use. And yet, even the most expensive and well constructed fashion bags tend to lose their polish over time — on this particular bag, the wax edging around the top rim of the bag had begun to disintegrate. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to re-edge/re-wax these parts of the bag.
Edging repair
In order to repair the edging, we had to first remove the existing edging, carefully peeling it off without damaging the underlying leather. We then use a malleable black wax to re-edge the area entirely and let that wax set.
Notably, the edging on handbags serves an important function, protecting the seams and edges of the leather panels, and thus protecting the bag’s core structure. We recommend that customers avoid continuing to use bags with worn edging — especially on handles where the wearing is likely to be more severe.

The zipper on this Dior bag was broken, with the teeth torn and the slider loose. We replaced the zipper with an entirely new one on which we installed the original Dior pull.
