The shoes

The soles on these Salvatore Ferragamo loafers were heavily worn, with the soles in particular severely cracked and breaking apart entirely. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis / quote, we offered to perform a full resole, replacing the heels and soles along the full length of each shoe with a new pair of high-quality rubber heels and soles.

Full resole and reheel

We started off by removing the old soles and heel, using a solvent to break down the adhesive connecting the soles to the uppers. Because the shoes are not welted (i.e. there is no layer of leather or rubber sitting between the soles and heels), the shoes are able to maintain a slim profile, but it meant that we needed to stitch (specifically, Blake-stitch) into place a rubber midsole, which we in turn installed a pair of outer soles (made from a high-quality, French-made rubber). We then installed a series of leather heel stacks followed by a rubber heel cap (made from a high-quality, Italian-made rubber). And we finished off the resole by finishing the edges to a consistent brown.

Leather polish

We then polished the leather uppers to buff out the scuffing (especially at the toes) as much as possible, restore some of the lost colour and help get the leather looking much fresher.
