The boots
The leather and one of the pull tabs around the top of one of these RM Williams boots had been chewed right off by a naughty dog. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to repair the boot by stitching into place a replacement RM Williams pull tab alongside a leather patch.
Chewed leather repair
In this case, the interior and exterior layers of leather at the front of the boot had torn off completely and needed to be replaced. We began by selecting two sturdy pieces of matching leather and cutting pieces shaped and sized to completely cover the affected the area.
We installed these leather patches by stitching them into place along the original stitching lines, having also skived (i.e. thinned) the leather around the edges to minimise the visibility of the join between the old and new leather. In this way, we were able to ensure the patch was largely invisible at a glance / at a distance.
Pull tab replacement
The pull tabs on RM Williams boots are originally stitched into place between the two layers of leather at the front of the boot. Replacing pull tabs usually involves undoing the top seam in order to insert the new tab, but in this case, we were able to stitch the pull tab into place while constructing the new leather patch described above.
As authorised RM Williams boot repairers, we have access to original RM Williams replacement parts and so were able to use matching RM Williams-branded pull tabs in this case.
