The shoes
This soles on these Manolo Blahnik Hangisi pumps were worn and unprotected. When the customer reached out to us for a free diagnosis/quote, we offered to repair the soles and install a pair of thin, textured protective soles, for improved durability and grip.
Protective sole installation
As on most designer brands’ shoes, the original soles on these shoes were made of leather. Leather soles have a premium aesthetic that appeals to many, but they tend to wear down fairly quickly and can be slippery. Because of this, protective soles are a popular choice for those who want to prevent excessive and accelerated damage to the soles of their soles, and to increase traction / grip during wear.
We started by sanding the front half of original soles, back to just before the branding. The aim of this step is to re-contour the worn leather on the surface and to create a bed for the new soles to sit level with the rest of the soles further back. This is crucial in retaining the profile of the shoes, as without it, the rubber would be sit as an additional layer over the top of the existing.
We then installed a pair of protective soles made by TOPY in France. These have a light tread that helps with traction, a lighter colour that helps to blend the sole protectors in with the original soles, and a highly durable rubber composition.
